Koduru Leads Boys’ Cross Country at Carlisle Invite

Saturday, September 28, 2019

Aakash Koduru ’20 took 16th out of 372 finishers in the Champions race to pace Mercersburg’s boys’ cross country team at the Carlisle Invitational September 28 in Carlisle, Pa.

Coming through the mile mark, Koduru was not even in the top 100 runners.  While many of the other runners slowed during the second mile after a fast start, Koduru maintained his pace and worked his way up through the crowd.  He continued to pick up the pace and pass runners in the third mile, including sprinting by several runners on the final straightaway.

Pablo Garza Gutierrez ’22 just missed cracking the top 100, finishing in 101st place. The remaining Mercersburg scorers were Will Allen ’20, Ethan Weeks ’20, and Mike Kopnin ’20, who ran under 20:00 for the first time in his career.

“There were roughly 3,000 runners competing in seven races today,” Mercersburg head coach David Grady said. “This was great for all of our runners to experience cross country on such a large scale. The boys responded well by being engaged with other competitors throughout the race.”
