Mercersburg’s boys’ varsity basketball team erased a nine-point deficit with a 23-0 fourth-quarter run to complete a perfect weekend in the Stuff the Basket Showcase with a 58-46 win over Phelps School December 7 in the Plantz Courts of Nolde Gymnasium.

Quintin Metcalf ’20 scored a game-high 20 points and tallied five blocked shots. Kaylen Oweh ’20 and AJ Gray ’20 each added 14 points for the Storm.

Phelps broke open a 22-22 halftime tie to lead 42-33 after three quarters, but with newfound energy, Mercersburg changed the tempo of the game and went on a furious run that featured dunks and tremendous defense. The Lions’ first point of the fourth quarter didn’t come until almost seven minutes had elapsed, and by that time, the Storm was in total control.

“We proved that we can win games where we don’t score a ton, because our defense is always there,” Blue Storm head coach Sean Crocker said. “It was great to see!”

Mercersburg (3-3) hosts Washington High School Thursday, December 12, at 6:30 p.m.
