Hot Streak Continues for Boys’ V Soccer

Ken Akiyama ’23 scored twice and Foday Bangura ’22 and Miles Maggioncalda ’23 also added goals as Mercersburg’s boys’ varsity soccer team won its third straight contest: a shutout victory over local foe St. James, 4–0, in a game played October 5 on Steiger Field.

The Blue Storm got strong play off the bench from Felipe Gomez ’23, who tallied two assists.

Bangura opened the scoring in the 10th minute, and Akiyama’s first goal of the match came in the 22nd minute to give Mercersburg a 2–0 lead at intermission. The Storm struck twice in the early minutes of the second half, with the second half of Akiyama’s brace and Maggioncalda’s tally bringing the score to its 4–0 final.

Mercersburg (3–4 overall) hosts Lawrenceville Saturday, October 9, as part of the school’s Family Weekend festivities. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
