Grapplers Take Part in Holiday Invites
At the Trojan Wars at Chambersburg Area Senior High School December 29–30, Aiden Lorson ’22 knocked off the No. 3 seed at 152 pounds and Luke Hendricks ’24 placed 8th at 285 pounds to lead Mercersburg’s wrestlers.
Lorson pinned third-seeded Kelton Brunner of Strath Haven (Wallingford, PA) at 1:32 in the second round. He fell to eventual champion A.J. Rodrigues of South Carroll (MD) in the championship quarterfinals and then suffered a fall at the hands of Frank Gulli of Red Lion (PA) in the consolation bracket.
Hendricks knocked off Ethan Eisner of Red Land (PA) in his championship opener, was defeated at the hands of Gettysburg’s Trevor Gallagher, and then rattled off four straight victories in the consolation rounds to reach the eighth-place match, where he fell to Troy Mack of Downingtown.
Alex Forrester ’23 and Hayden Shirk ’24 also competed, going 0-2 at 132 and 138 pounds, respectively.
Hayden Shirk ’24 placed fourth at 145 pounds at the Max Horz Holiday Invitational December 22 in Berkeley Springs, WV.
Shirk won his first match by pinning Hayden Beach of Hurricane (WV) in 3:26 before falling to Kris Sherman of Frankfort (WV) by decision in the quarterfinals. He then won consolation matches over Helena Radford of Jefferson (WV) by fall in just 29 seconds and Kollin Sullivan of host Berkeley Springs and Logan Kreamer of Fishburne Military (VA)—both by decision—to advance to the third-place match against Chase Taylor of Northern Garrett (MD). Taylor won that match by decision.
