Golf - Varsity

  • A nationally renowned school. A culture of academic success. A program with historic stature. A place to define yourself as a person and as an athlete.
  • The Mercersburg golf program is built upon a foundation of hard work, discipline and respect for the game. We stress individual improvement of each golfer within a competitive team environment. We work to foster an understanding of the rules and cultures of the game that will stay with team members long after their careers at Mercersburg are over.
  • Golf holds a distinctive place in Mercersburg’s athletic history, with origins that date to the Academy’s early years in the 1890s. Future LPGA pro Holly Vaughn ’80 opened the door for female players in the 1980s and longtime coach Dick Decker’s squads claimed titles in Mercersburg’s first league affiliation, the Mid-Atlantic Conference, in the 1990s. More recently, the Blue Storm has posted an unbeaten streak in the Independent-Parochial School League (IPSL) championships and has produced two individual champions in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League girls’ tournament.
  • Mercersburg’s home golf course for both practices and competitions is Whitetail Golf Resort, an expertly manicured 18-hole championship course designed by highly recognized architect Rick Robbins. While female athletes have traditionally made significant contributions to the varsity team, a specific girls’ varsity squad has been established to compete during the spring season beginning in 2019-2020.
