Golf Shoots Past Blue Ridge

Andrew Forrester ’21 carded the day’s low round (82)

Mercersburg’s golf team took care of business against visiting Blue Ridge School May 15 in a match played at Chambersburg Country Club. The Blue Storm earned the victory by a count of 423–507. Andrew Forrester ’21 shot the low round of 82 to earn medalist honors, including a 40 on the final nine holes.

The top five scores count in the team tally, though Mercersburg golfers posted the six lowest scores of the day in an impressive across-the-board performance. Following Forrester in the individual standings were Laura Schumacher ’21 and Ethan Xin ’23 with identical 84s. Kenneth Yonke ’22 shot an 85, and Cameron Willcox ’21 carded an 88 for the fifth qualifying score. Jason Jones ’24 shot an 89 as the Blue Storm cruised past the Barons, who made the trip up from St. George, VA.

“I’m really impressed that we posted so many solid scores today,” Mercersburg head coach Doug Smith said. “It’s even more gratifying with all the adversity we’ve faced this season. Our players are excited about a great matchup next week with Hill.”

The Storm (1–2) finishes the spring 2021 season next Saturday, May 22, at Brookside Country Club in Pottstown, PA, against The Hill School. The match tees off at 2 p.m.
