The Blue Storm and head coach Mike Sweeney celebrate their victory

Mercersburg’s girls’ varsity squash team won all nine matches against Mid-Atlantic Prep League rival Hill January 29 in a contest played in the Davenport Squash Center. The Blue Storm improved to 6–1 this season.

The event was originally scheduled as a tri-match between the host Blue Storm, Hill, and fellow MAPL member Blair, but the Bucs were unable to travel to Mercersburg due to a significant snowstorm that affected much of the Mid-Atlantic and New England. That left the Storm and Blues to battle things out on the courts.

While most matches featured competitive points, the Blue Storm posted 3–0 wins in seven of the nine contests. Greta Lawler ’23 (at #3) and Jamie Hyung ’23 at (#8) needed five games to get past their opponents, showing great determination along the way.  Mercersburg improved to 6–1 on the season.

“Overall, today’s match featured improved fitness, quickness, and shot selection,” said Mercersburg head coach Mike Sweeney. “A clean sweep over Hill... a terrific result.”
