Girls' V Soccer Claims M Cup Victory over Madeira
In what proved to be a high-scoring, fast-paced, and physical match, Mercersburg’s girls’ varsity soccer team got a pair of goals from Cate Vickery ’22 and added scores from Emma Hobbs ’23, Nora Smith ’24, and Susan Concordia ’22 to earn a 5-3 win over host Madeira September 25 in McLean, VA.
Hobbs opened the scoring when she took an assist from Peyton Gesell ’22 for what head coach Kristen Pixler called "a wonderful team goal." Concordia’s goal came late in the first half.
"Nora played a technical game, helping to control the center, and topped off her performance with a gorgeous volley off a corner early in the second half," Pixler said. "Cate played with maturity and composure. Susan played a creative and energized match, shutting down the attacking push on the wing. The team left in high spirits. It was a beautiful day and great to be back at Madeira."
Mercersburg (3-3 overall) hosts local rival St. James Tuesday, September 28, at 4:30 p.m.
