Mercersburg’s girls’ cross country team swiped the top four places in a Family Weekend meet against Madeira October 8 which also featured a handful of runners from Grier School.

The Blue Storm’s win over Madeira (16–43) gives Mercersburg three more points in the multisport M Cup competition; the Storm will enter the winter portion of the competition with a 15–6 lead.

Greta Lawler ’23 (21:45), Anne Sehon ’25 (21:54), Maddie Schermerhorn ’22 (24:01), and Leah Willis ’24 (24:40) were the first four runners across the line. Grier’s Anna Sahberg (24:50) ran the fifth-fastest time, followed by Madeira’s top finisher, Michelle Wu (24:56). Erika Sowah ’24 (25:17) was the fifth and final scorer for the Storm.

Other Mercersburg finishers included Linley Hill ’23 (25:53), Clare Ip ’24 (27:39), Jasmine Zhu ’23 (28:47), Linden Wallace ’25 (30:03), Liz Bills ’22 (30:40), and Gigi Devlin ’24 (31:47). Zhu and Devlin both posted season PRs.

“A perfect score in cross county is 15 points,” said Mercersburg head coach Betsy Cunningham. “The girls scored 16 today—so, almost a perfect score. The team ran really well and learned some of the hidden challenges of our course since this was their first time racing at home.”

Mercersburg hosts the Independent-Parochial School League Cup Series race Tuesday, October 19, at 4 p.m.
