Mercersburg’s girls varsity tennis team captured all seven matches (four singles, three doubles) in a 7-0 win over host Madeira September 25 in McLean, VA.

Playing the format favored by the home team (a slight change from the typical setup), Mercersburg jumped out to an early lead after comfortable wins at #1, #2, and #4 singles by Hisano Enomoto ’25, Isabel Su ’23, and Camille Smith ’22. Meanwhile, it was closer at #1 and #2 doubles and the #3 singles match.

The #1 doubles team of Izzy Jones ’22 and Sam Jacobs ’23 ran off a streak of games, opening up their match with disciplined shot making, while the #2 team of MC Miro and Jaime Hyung eliminated errors. Both would go on to win.

Meanwhile, Day Kim ’23 was still on court at #3 in a closely contested battle. Through timely net attacks and steady finish, she pulled out a 9-7 win to stay undefeated for the season. The #3 doubles team of Mogere Nyakoe ’25 and Savannah Poe ’23 finished the job, playing improved doubles and cruising to a smooth 8-2 victory to complete the Mercersburg sweep.
