Doubles (one point)
#1 Jackie Drozd/Alexis English (Hu) d. Coco Sandhu/Audrey McGrory (M): 8-4
#2 Caroline Dillard/Isabel Su (M) d. Elle Perosi/Sabrina Wang (Hu): 8-6
#3 Caroline Kranich/Greta Goetzenberger (M) d. Mahika Cladra/Esha Mogali (Hu): 8-4
“Come-from-behind victories in two key matches were the difference today,” said Mercersburg head coach Eric Hicks. “We secured the all-important doubles point after Dillard and Su made the right adjustments at 1-4 down. They took four games in-a-row to go up 5-4 and then led the rest of the way.
“In singles, Hun got the best of us in the odd-numbered flights. We led from the start, however, at #2 singles (McGrory) and #6 singles (Goetzenberger). McGrory and Goetzeberger were both very steady from start to finish today.
“At #4 singles, Su got behind early in the first set but worked hard to force a set tiebreak. Unfortunately, she got behind in the tiebreaker and lost that set. Su did well to stay calm; she got off to a better start and led all the way in the second. In the match tiebreak, Su let an early lead slip away then rallied to get up 8-6. At 8-8 she played two steady points to win her match and give us the team win.”
Goetzenberger is now 4-0 at #6 singles; she and Kranich are 4-1 in doubles so far this season.
