Girls’ V Squash Storms to Season-Opening Win

Mercersburg’s girls’ varsity squash team kicked off the 2019-2020 campaign with a 7-2 victory over Buffalo Seminary December 6 in the Davenport Squash Center. 

Shirley Lee ’20 led the way for the Blue Storm by capturing an early straight-set victory, while Annika Stewart ’21, Ellie Liu ’21, Jolie Viener ’21, Camille Smith ’22, and Miki Kato ’20 all jumped on their opponents, coming away with 3-0 wins. 

The most hotly contested match of the day was played by ninth grader Greta Lawler ’23 in her first squash match for Mercersburg. She kept her cool in the fifth and deciding game, coming away with a 3-2 win.

The Blue Storm (1-0) hosts seven other teams this weekend at the Davenport Squash Center in the 2019 edition of the Flanagan Tournament. Matches begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 7.
