Indira Moshi ’24

Mercersburg’s girls’ varsity squash team knocked off Blair Academy in the semifinals of the Mid-Atlantic Prep League Championships before suffering a defeat to host Lawrenceville in the finals February 12.

Playing in a best-of-7 format, Mercersburg opened its semifinal against Blair with losses at #6 and #7, followed by wins at #4 (Camille Smith ’22) and #2 (Martina Vega Calero ’23). When Blair won at #5, it was clear that Mercersburg would need to win at both #3 and #1 to advance. Greta Lawler ’23 (#3) and Indira Moshi ’24 (#1) came up with dominant 3-0 victories in a timely manner to send Mercersburg to the finals.

Lawrenceville’s team proved to be too strong and deep for the Blue Storm, as the Big Red won at every position except #1, where Moshi continued her winning ways with a convincing 3-1 win. Moshi is now 11–0 on the season; Vega Calero suffered her first defeat of the year against Lawrenceville’s Daphne Volpp, and fell to 10–1 on the year.
