Girls’ V Squash Earns Two Wins in Flanagan Tourney
Mercersburg’s girls’ varsity squash team went 2-1 at the Tom Flanagan Tournament, which the Blue Storm hosted December 7 in the Davenport Squash Center. The Blue Storm improved to 3-1 on the season after shaking off a defeat at the hands of St. Catherine’s to knock off Nardin Academy and Lancaster Country Day School.
After the opening-round loss to St. Catherine’s (which went on to win the event), the Storm dropped Nardin Academy and Lancaster Country Day by identical 7-2 scores to secure fifth place in the tournament.
The match of the day was played by Annika Stewart ’21, who gutted out three games for a 2-1 lead, then dropped a quick fourth set and was down 4-0 after a rough start to the fifth set, but took the final 11 points to win the match.
“This is such a positive start to our season,” said Mercersburg director of squash Ryan Tyree. “Congratulations to our girls for starting the year 3-1!”
The Storm visits National Cathedral School Tuesday, December 10. The match has a 4:30 p.m. start time in Washington, D.C.
