Girls’ V Soccer Outlasts Episcopal in OT
Cate Vickery ’22 scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift Mercersburg’s girls’ varsity soccer team to a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over host Episcopal High School September 28 in Alexandria, Va.
Vickery, who is from Alexandria, tallied the last of the three goals for the Blue Storm after it fell behind the Maroon 2-0. Tanaka Mukudzavhu ’20 pulled Mercersburg within 2-1 when she scored five minutes into the second half, and Annie Klaff ’20 tied things up with a goal less than two minutes later. Vickery’s game-winner came 32 seconds into overtime.
Alex Coenjaerts ’20 made five saves in goal for the Storm (3-4), which won despite being outshot 7-5.
Mercersburg visits Fannett-Metal High School in an intra-Franklin County matchup Tuesday, October 1, at 4:30 p.m. in Fannettsburg, Pa.
