Girls’ V Soccer Gets Past Goretti

Mercersburg’s girls’ varsity soccer team got a total team effort in a 5–3 win over local rival St. Maria Goretti October 14 in Mercersburg.

Cate Vickery ’22 scored twice while Susan Concordia ’22, Maddie Goodhart ’24, and Kyla Moore ’23 added one goal apiece for the Blue Storm. Goodhart, Moore, and Hannah King ’23 all picked up assists. Caroline Simpson ’22 and Grace Carter ’23 combined for 13 saves in goal during what was a competitive and high-scoring match.

“Goretti had an impressive attack that was able to break through our backline a few times,” said Mercersburg head coach Kristen Pixler. “Caroline Simpson had an incredible game in goal making some tremendous saves taking on their striker in a couple of 1v1s. Caroline Wilkinson ’23 played incredible sound defense and showed incredible composure and control with the ball at her feet even under pressure. Cate Vickery had two incredible goals, beautiful corner kicks, and a number of dangerous attacks. The team pressed hard and enjoyed another beautiful fall day of soccer.”

The Storm (7–5 overall) visits Blair Academy in a Mid-Atlantic Prep League matchup Saturday, October 16. Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m. in Blairstown, NJ.
