Girls’ V Basketball Outlasts Highland
In a contest that was close the whole way, Mercersburg’s girls’ varsity basketball team edged visiting Highland School, 45–42, in the Plantz Courts January 29.
The Storm led 20–19 at halftime and 28–24 after three quarters. Cate Vickery ’22 made a pair of huge insurance free throws with 7.9 seconds to play to give Mercersburg a three-point lead, and the visiting Hawks (from Warrenton, VA) missed a three-pointer which would have sent the game to overtime.
Rachel Hull ’23 scored a game-high 22 points for the Blue Storm, which earned its second straight victory. Madison Goodhart ’24 had nine points and Leilani Isel-Register ’24 added eight points. Elena Bertrand had 17 points for Highland.
Mercersburg (3–4) returns to action Friday, February 4, at home against Mid-Atlantic Prep League foe Blair Academy. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
