Girls’ V Basketball Outlasted in OT

Peddie battled back from an 11-point fourth quarter deficit to force overtime and edge Mercersburg, 61-58, in a dramatic girls’ varsity basketball contest between Mid-Atlantic Prep League rivals February 9 in the Plantz Courts of Nolde Gymnasium.

Cate Vickery ’22 posted a team-high 21 points to lead the Blue Storm, and Leilani Isel-Register ’24 tied the game at 56-56 with a 15-foot jump shot with 15.8 seconds to play in regulation to force overtime. 

Peddie’s Sydnee Eggleton poured in a game-high 31 points, including both field goals for the Falcons in the extra period. After Eggleton gave Peddie a 58-56 lead, Mercersburg’s Zareena Sorho ’23 drained two free throws with 1:44 to play in overtime which tied the score. Eggleton scored again on the ensuing trip down the court, and the Falcons added a free throw with 8.6 seconds to play. Trailing 61-58, Mercersburg missed a long three-pointer as the clock ran out.

Sorho had 16 points for the Blue Storm, which shot 17-of-21 from the free-throw line; Vickery was 10-of-11 from the stripe.

Mercersburg (4-7, 0-3 MAPL) now hits the road for a two-game road trip, beginning Friday, February 11, at the Hun School of Princeton (6 p.m.).
