Rachel Hull ’23 drives to the basket

Mercersburg’s girls’ varsity basketball team made the trip January 22 to Pottstown, PA, for its 2022 Mid-Atlantic Prep League opener against the Hill School, dropping a hard-fought contest, 49-39, to the Rams in front of a lively crowd.

Rachel Hull ’23 led the Blue Storm with 14 points; she was limited by foul trouble, as were teammates Leilani Isel-Register ’24 and Madison Goodhart ’24; Goodhart pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds before fouling out with two minutes left.

"I was pleased with how our team reacted after a disappointing loss at home," said Mercersburg head coach Paul Sipes. "We need to get better at recognizing when a team has one or two players carrying them and cut the head off their offense. We rebounded quite well and cut the lead to four points in the fourth quarter. Trying to come back sucks the stamina out of a team and it has shown this week."

The Storm visits local rival St. Maria Goretti Tuesday, January 25, for its next contest, as the games continue to come fast and furious in this compressed season. Tip-off in Hagerstown is set for 6 p.m.
