In its 2021–2022 season opener December 3, Mercersburg’s girls’ varsity basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to St. John Paul the Great Catholic High School, 44–42, in the first game of the Potomac Tip-Off Tournament at Potomac School in McLean, VA.

Madison Goodhart ’24 led the Blue Storm with 15 points and five blocked shots.

Mercersburg trailed by three points at halftime but surged back in the third quarter to build a 10-point lead. But the Wolves (from Dumfries, VA) battled back, and a combination of foul trouble and physical fatigue ended up doing in the Storm in their season lid-lifter.

Rachel Hull ’23 scored 13 points and Cate Vickery ’22 added six points.

Mercersburg (0–1) faces Seton School (of Manassas, VA) in the second and final game of the tournament Saturday, December 4 (also at Potomac School). Tip-off is set for noon.
