In the first ever all-girls’ match in Mercersburg Academy golf history, the Blue Storm came up just shy of victory, falling 214-216 to visiting Episcopal High School in a nine-hole match March 29 at Chambersburg Country Club.

It was a cold and windy day at Chambersburg, but the girls persevered and fought the elements despite not having their A games on the day. The Storm was led by Sihyeon Bae ’24, who carded a solid 50 for the day. The second lowest score came from Amanda Xi ’25 (54), followed by captain Sandra Apfelroth ’23 (55). The scoring was rounded out by Abby Yang ’25 with a 57.

"I am so proud to be part of this match and to be able to see the official beginning of the girls’ program," Mercersburg head coach Doug Smith said. "Each of the girls came up above where they had been playing so far this year. The effort and the promise of better golf was apparent. I believe this is just a launching pad for a good year."

Mercersburg hosts Bishop O’Connell High School (Arlington, VA) on Saturday, April 2, beginning at noon at Chambersburg Country Club.
