Girls’ Cross Country Runs Fast at Paul Short Invite

At the prestigious Paul Short Invitational on the campus of Lehigh University October 5, Mercersburg’s girls’ cross country team saw its top five finishers record season or lifetime personal records in Bethlehem, Pa.

Addie Geitner ’21 led the way with a 19:58, which was a season PR for her by 39 seconds. Maddie Schermerhorn ’22 crossed the line next for the Blue Storm in 23:11 (a lifetime PR by 1:24). Elizabeth Flaherty ’21 followed in 23:22 (season PR by 1:41), Grace Lewis ’20 finished with a 23:38 (lifetime PR by 56 seconds), and Clara Getty ’21 completed the course in 24:24 (a lifetime PR by 1:30).

“The girls had a fantastic experience running in a field this large and competitive,” said Mercersburg head coach Betsy Cunningham. “They enjoyed watching the collegiate races earlier in the day, and were inspired to be at such a large meet celebrating cross country.”

Mercersburg returns to action Wednesday, October 9, with a dual meet at crosstown foe James Buchanan High School (4:30 p.m.).
