Field Hockey - Varsity | Mercersburg Academy

Historical beginnings: Carol Anderson, owner of PennMonto Field Hockey and Lacrosse Company, was named Mercersburg’s first female sport coach in 1972. Her 1973 field hockey team went undefeated. The team’s coaching history also includes former college head coaches, including at the Division I College of the Holy Cross.
In the 2010s, the Storm has established a new standard for most wins in a season, set several other team records, and has twice reached the quarterfinals of the PAISAA state tournament. Recent graduates have gone on to play at Bucknell University, Gettysburg College, Ursinus College, and the University of Virginia.
The Mercersburg field hockey team trains and competes on Regents’ Field, an expansive synthetic turf facility completed in 2009 and designated for primary use by female sports teams at Mercersburg. The field, which is also utilized by the girls’ lacrosse program, measures 375’ x 225’ and features a SprintTurf surface and eight boxes for maximizing practice and workout opportunities.
Head coach Kristin Ahlgren has also coached field hockey at the high-school and college level in Maryland, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Ohio, as well as for the U.S. Field Hockey Association’s Futures Field Hockey Program.

English Faculty, Head Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse Coach, and Head Field Hockey Coach

Bio

Kristin Ahlgren came to Mercersburg in 2017 as a member of the English faculty. Kristin is head coach of Mercersburg’s girls’ varsity lacrosse and field hockey teams, and is also a head coach for Renegades Lacrosse Club. She previously taught and worked in the library at Gilman School in Baltimore, where she also served as a head coach for the Diamonds Lacrosse Club. Kristin has taught and worked at St. David’s Day School in Baltimore and at Heritage Hall School in Oklahoma City (where she was also the head field hockey coach). Her coaching experience includes stints as head field hockey and women’s lacrosse coach at University Liggett School in Grosse Pointe, MI; as head junior varsity field hockey and assistant JV lacrosse coach at Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore; and as an assistant field hockey and women’s lacrosse coach at Oberlin College in Ohio. Kristin graduated from Gettysburg College, where she played varsity field hockey and lacrosse; she lives in Mercersburg with her four children, including Jill ’19, Jake ’21, and Bridget ’22.
