Field Hockey Shoots Past Southern Huntingdon
Kelly Powell ’22 scored five goals and Zarreen Sorho ’23 added two goals as Mercersburg’s field hockey team cruised to an 8-1 victory over visiting Southern Huntingdon High School October 2 on Regents’ Field.
The game was originally scheduled to be played on the SHHS campus in Three Springs, PA, but was moved to Mercersburg on Friday afternoon.
Powell was the scoring star of the game on her birthday with five goals and an assist. Sorho got the Blue Storm on the board first when she scored off a rebound from Bridget Ahlgren ’22, followed by two straight goals by Powell courtesy of assists from Hailey Chepren ’23. Ahlgren had a goal and two assists, and Vienna Horstmann ’23 also contributed an assist.
Zareena Sorho ’23 had six saves in goal for the victorious Blue Storm.
Mercersburg (3-2) has won three straight contests, and now turns its attention to local rival St. James, which the Blue Storm visits Tuesday, October 5. The game begins at 4 p.m. in Hagerstown, MD.
