Field Hockey Beats Forbes Road in Finale
In its final game of the 2021 season, Mercersburg’s field hockey team sent seniors Bridget Ahlgren ’22 and Kelly Powell ’22 off in proper fashion with a 2–1 victory over visiting Forbes Road High School November 2 on Regents’ Field. Ahlgren had a goal and an assist in the victory, which was the Blue Storm’s first over the Cardinals in several years.
Zarreen Sorho ’23 collected the game’s first goal in the first quarter off an assist from Ahlgren. The score remained 1–0 until Forbes Road tied the game with a goal just before halftime.
Both teams had scoring chances in the third and fourth quarters. With 6:38 left, a Mercersburg shot headed straight for the goal, only to be stopped on the goal line by the foot of a Cardinal defender—resulting in a penalty stroke. Ahlgren ripped a flick into the top right side of the goal to give Mercersburg a lead it would not relinquish.
Zareena Sorho ’23 made five saves in goal to preserve the victory.
Mercersburg finishes the season with a 6–6 overall record.
