Fast Start Helps Girls’ V Basketball Run Past Washington
Mercersburg’s girls’ varsity basketball team scored the game’s first 19 points and led by as much as 25 points in the first half en route to a 49-36 win over visiting Washington High School February 1 in the Plantz Courts of Nolde Gymnasium.
Zoe Gooch ’20 scored a game-high 14 points for the Blue Storm (9-9 overall).
Mercersburg held an 11-0 lead after the first quarter, and didn't allow the visiting Patriots (of Charles Town, WV) to get on the board until the 5:21 mark of the second quarter. Gooch and Maiyah Johnson ’21 each connected twice from beyond the arc in the second period, leading to a 33-10 Storm edge at intermission.
Johnson had nine points and the Storm got seven points apiece from Cate Vickery ’22, Ava Hull ’21, and Reign Scott ’22.
The Blue Storm’s next game is the opener of the Mid-Atlantic Prep League Tournament against the Hun School of Princeton Friday, February 7, in Pottstown, PA.
