Fall Pops Concert Held November 16
Members of Mercersburg Academy’s Octet and Magalia (the school’s a cappella vocal groups) and Jazz Band took the stage for the Fall Pops Concert November 16 in the Burgin Center for the Arts’ Simon Theatre.
The Jazz Band, directed by Bryan Morgan ’07, performed In the Mood by Joe Garland, arranged by Paul Lavender; Cheesecake by Dexter Gordon, arranged by Rick Stitzel; Lean on Me by Bill Withers, arranged by John Wasson; Legend of the One Eyed Sailor by Chuck Mangione, arranged by Dallas C. Burke; Skyliner by Charlie Barnet, arranged by Mark Taylor; and Europa by Santana and Coster, arranged by Eric Richards.
The Jazz Band joined with the Mercersburg Chorale for a performance of Shut Up And Dance by Walk The Moon, arranged by Mac Huff.
Magalia, directed by Jim Brinson, performed a variety of songs including Always Something There to Remind Me, by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, arranged by Deke Sharon; Royals, by Joel Little and Ella Yelich-O’Conner, arranged by Brinson; Style by Taylor Swift, arranged by Brinson; and Make You Feel My Love by Bob Dylan, arranged by Brinson.
The Octet, directed by Richard Rotz, performed Yellow by Champion, Berryman, and Buckland, arranged by Rotz; Come Go With Me, by C.E. Quick, arranged by Shaw; You Were on My Mind by Sylvia Fricker; and Good Old Acapella by King, Tindley, and Leiber, arranged by Sharon.
The Fall Student Music Recital will be held Sunday, November 17, at 1:30 p.m. in the Burgin Center for the Arts’ Boone Recital Hall, and the Christmas Candlelight Service will be held Sunday, December 15, at 4:30 and 7 p.m. in the Irvine Memorial Chapel.
