Colwell, Koduru, King Lead Indoor T&F at Mercersburg Season Opener

James Colwell ’20 won the boys’ 55m hurdles and lowered his own school record in the process, Aakash Koduru ’20 took the boys’ 1600m, and Hannah King ’23 tied for first place in the girls’ high jump at the Mercersburg Indoor Track Season Opener December 13 in the Hale Field House. The meet featured more than 500 athletes from 22 teams.

Girls’ highlights:
King’s high jump (4’ 10”) ranks second on the all-time Mercersburg indoor list. Annie Leder ’20 took third in the triple jump (33’ 6.75”), which ranks second all-time in school history behind record holder Grace Lewis ’20.  Lewis has been battling tendinitis in her knee but still managed a 7th place finish with a jump of 31’ 1”. (Leder also placed fifth in the 55m hurdles in a time of 9.52 seconds and seventh in the long jump at 15’ 1.5”.)

Arola Oluwehinmi ’21 placed third in the 55m dash in a time of 7.66 seconds.  Her time was faster than her best mark from last year, and her time ranks as the sixth-fastest indoor in the 55m by a Mercersburg athlete. Oluwehinmi also took fourth in the long jump at 15’ 2.5”. Addie Geitner ’21 placed third in the 1600m in a time of 5:36.32, and 10th in the 800m in a time of 2:40.05.  It was her best time ever in the 800m and her time ranks her #9 on the all-time Mercersburg indoor rankings for that event.  

Annie Leder placed 3rd in the triple jump at 33’ 6.75”.  Her mark places her 2nd on the Mercersburg indoor rankings for the triple jump, behind record holder Grace Lewis ’20.  Lewis has been battling tendinitis in her knee but still managed a 7th place finish with a jump of 31’ 1”.    Newcomer Hannah King ’23 tied for 1st place in the high jump at 4’ 10”.  Her jump ranks her #2 on the all-time Mercersburg indoor list for that event.   

Boys highlights:
Colwell’s winning time in the 55m hurdles lowers his indoor school record of 8.27 seconds, which he set last year. He also took sixth in the pole vault (8’3”) and ran the fastest split (55.6) on the 4x400m relay team that placed sixth in a time of 3:51.52. Koduru, Sean Fiscus ’20, and Jobe Hause ’22 joined Colwell on the relay. Koduru’s winning time in the 1600m was 4:39.14.  

Prithvi Kota ’22 placed second in the high jump (5’ 8”). Cory Daly ’20, competing in his first ever indoor track & field season, placed third in the long jump at (20’ 2.75”). His jump ranks fifth all-time on the Mercersburg indoor list for that event. Zach Courtney ’20 placed seventh in the shot put at 40’ 7”.

Mercersburg’s next scheduled competition is the Mercersburg Invitational Friday, January 17, 2020, in the Hale Field House.
