Global Programs

Nothing expands one’s horizons and comfort zone quite like engaging with new cultures, people, and languages.
As part of Mercersburg Academy's experiential education program, Global Programs takes our students out of the classroom and gives them opportunities to connect, explore, engage, and collaborate with the complex, globalized world through a variety of experiences—on campus, virtually, and internationally during their years in our community. Every year, upperclass students have the opportunity to participate in a domestic or international travel program during spring or summer break.

As parents, we had complete confidence in the chaperons and knew Gianna would be safe. It made it easy to drop her off and wave goodbye, knowing she would be so far away. We didn’t need to stress about the details because all of those were taken care of. Trips were very well planned, and students got the most of each minute. It was such a pleasure to communicate with Gianna at the end each day as she bubbled over about her adventures. We got to experience the sites, sounds, and smells through her, and it was amazing!

Our daughter took full advantage of the global learning program at Mercersburg Academy. She traveled to Taiwan in 2024 and Costa Rica in 2025. These trips have been highlights of her time at Mercersburg. In Taiwan, she experienced a culture completely different from anything she had experienced before, from the food to the language. She even decided to take Mandarin her senior year because of that trip. In Costa Rica, she was able to immerse herself in the culture of the area. She is fluent in Spanish and put that to work in a five-day-long home stay while the students did service projects at the Cloud Forest School. Both of these trips have really helped her to focus on what she wants next as she heads to college looking to major in world languages and a possible stint in the Peace Corps.

Traveling to France was really special and opened my eyes to a part of the world I had never been to. We learned about immigration and did many walking tours while we were taught about the varying cultures there.
