Campus Safety

Mercersburg Academy campus safety team.

The safety, security, and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff is our top priority. At Mercersburg Academy, we are committed to being proactive in our approach to ensuring a comprehensive safety and security program that will protect our campus community and support our mission. We believe that for our students to achieve success, we must ensure they are provided with a safe, supportive, and nurturing learning environment.

Meet Our Officers

Our team of campus safety officers are professionals who are dedicated to ensuring the safety of everyone on our campus. They maintain stringent protocols and procedures and undergo robust training. The highly experienced campus safety staff (all of our officers are former or retired law enforcement) includes five full-time officers and five part-time officers, and they have a presence on campus 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Our Approach

To achieve a safe and secure learning environment, we take a multilayered approach that includes:

  • Rigorous crisis response protocol

  • State-of-the-art emergency communication system

  • 24/7 campus patrols on foot and/or by vehicle

  • Campus safety presence at all school gatherings

  • All campus safety officers with identifiable vehicles, badges, and uniforms

  • Restricted building access

  • Outdoor cameras and video monitoring

  • Vehicle license plate monitoring

  • Regular examination of campus access points

  • Drills and exercises for our campus community

  • Continued training and professional development for all officers.

  • All campus safety officers are trained and equipped to respond to, among many other things, use of force situations in the unlikely event that they arise.

We’re in tune with situational awareness. We may see things that a lot of people don’t even notice, and that’s from our training, background, and experience.”
