Blue Storm players and coaches pose with the Centennial Cup

Mercersburg's boys' varsity basketball team got strong performances from AJ Gray '20 (19 points), Patrick Di Tullio '20 (16 points), and Quintin Metcalf '20 (15 points) as the Blue Storm defeated visiting Kiski School, 70-63, in a Centennial Cup contest January 17 in the Plantz Courts of Nolde Gymnasium.

It marks the first win for the Storm (11-4) over the Cougars in several seasons, and helped Mercersburg reclaim the lead in the yearlong Centennial Cup multisport competition between the two schools. Mercersburg's wrestling and boys' swimming teams were also victorious over their Kiski counterparts January 17, and now leads 4-3.

Mercersburg, which has won five straight games, stretched a slim 19-17 lead after the first period into a 41-28 halftime advantage, and led 55-46 after three quarters.

"It's great to get a win and have different guys step up, but there were ways we let Kiski dictate what we do, and we can't let that happen against good teams like them," said Blue Storm head coach Sean Crocker. "We made some big shots and pulled it out, but we need to get better. "

Mercersburg takes a 2-0 Mid-Atlantic Prep League mark into a showdown at Blair Academy Sunday, January 19. The host Buccaneers have won four of the past five MAPL titles. Tip-off is at 2:30 p.m.
