Mercersburg’s boys’ varsity tennis teams won three match tiebreakers—all of which were the deciding factor—in the Blue Storm’s 5-4 win over visiting McDonogh School May 4 at the Smoyer Tennis Center.

After the Eagles (from Owings Mills, MD, just outside Baltimore) took two of the three doubles matches for a 2-1 lead, Mercersburg needed at least four of the singles matches. Goshi Kamiya ’22 won in straight sets at #2, and after defeats at #1 and #3, it was up to Logan Butts ’23 at #4, Oscar Su ’25 at #5, and Declan Butts ’23 at #6. Su and Logan Butts fought back to take the second set after dropping the first set of their respective matches, while Declan Butts also found himself tied at a set apiece. All three Blue Storm players dug deep and captured their match tiebreakers to lead Mercersburg to the thrilling victory.
