Boys’ V Squash Wins Two Matches on Final Day of Flanagan Tournament

After dropping a match December 13 to eventual finalists Woodberry Forest School, Mercersburg’s boys’ squash team rallied to win two matches December 14 to place fifth overall at the Tom Flanagan ’38 Invitational December 14 in the Davenport Squash Center. 

In the morning session, the Blue Storm faced Westminster School and won by a score of 5-2, with wins at the 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 positions by Henry O’Brien ’20, Will Allen ’20, Ali Nurkhaidarov ’20, Kevin Chen ’21, and Dalton Fitzsimmons ’20. Francis Betkowski ’23 also took his exhibition bout at #8 in a convincing straight set victory. 

In the afternoon, Mercersburg faced Shady Side Academy of Pittsburgh, for whom O’Brien’s brother Bobby played at the #1 position. The Storm winds blew in strong and the squad took the match with a commanding 9-0 performance, adding Alex Lorenzo ’20, Clay Prichett ’20, and Andrew Forrester ’23 to the list of match winners. 

The Storm will travel to Washington, D.C., to take in the World Team Championships December 17, and returns to action January 11 with a tri-match on the road against The Hill School and Blair Academy.
