Thursday, September 30, 2021

Mercersburg’s boys’ varsity soccer team picked up its first win of the 2021 season (and the first in the Blue Storm career of head coach Peter Kallin) by knocking off Musselman High School, 3-2, in a match played September 30 on Steiger Field.

After the visiting Applemen (from Inwood, WV) scored first, Miles Maggioncalda ’23 pulled Mercersburg level and then Felipe Gomez ’22 gave the Storm a 2-1 lead five minutes before halftime. Foday Bangura ’22 tacked on an important insurance goal in the second half to increase the lead to 3-1. Musselman pulled within 3-2, but the Storm defense held up for the victory.

Mercersburg (1-4 overall) hosts Jefferson High School (of Shenandoah Junction, WV, near Charles Town) Saturday, October 2, at 2 p.m. (Watch a livestream of the contest.)
