Boys’ V Soccer Improves to 2-0 with Win Over Malvern
Diego Morgan ’20 notched a goal and an assist to help Mercersburg’s boys’ varsity soccer team knock off visiting Malvern Prep, 3-1, in a game played September 7 on Regents’ Field.
The visiting Friars scored in the 5th minute to claim an early 1-0 lead, but the Blue Storm (2-0) knotted things up in the 36th minute when Morgan’s corner kick led to a scramble in front of the goal that Mason Davis ’20 took control of and fired home. The teams went to intermission tied at 1-1.
Mercersburg took the lead for good in the 69th minute when Jack Quagliori ’21 played a diagonal ball to Foday Bangura ’22, whose half-volley found the lower corner of the goal. In the 78th minute, Morgan dribbled in from the left wing, passed to Luis Gomez ’21 at the top of the box, and hit a low hard shot to the near post for the 3-1 final.
Alex Lorenzo ’20 went the distance in goal for the Blue Storm, making two saves. Mercersburg’s offense produced 13 shots.
The Storm ventures out on the road for the first time in 2019 Tuesday, September 10, when Mercersburg visits local foe St. Maria Goretti. Kickoff in Hagerstown, Md., is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
