Boys’ V Soccer Doubles Up Bullis
Diego Morgan ’20 and Foday Bangura ’22 scored for Mercersburg’s boys’ varsity soccer team in a hard-fought and much-needed 2-1 victory over host Bullis School September 17 in Potomac, Md. The Blue Storm (4-1) bounced back from its lone loss of the season (suffered September 15 against Pennington [N.J.] school in a neutral-site contest).
Following a scoreless first half, the host Bulldogs scored in the opening minute of the second frame to take a 1-0 lead. Fortunately for the Storm, the lead would be short-lived, as Ken Akayami ’23 drew a penalty in the box, and Morgan converted the penalty kick to make it 1-1. Mercersburg notched the game-winner in the 49th minute when Morgan dribbled up the left side of the field, then crossed it in behind the Bullis defense to Bangura, who took one touch before finishing it with his right foot.
The Storm now looks forward to a Friday-night contest under the lights at nearby James Buchanan High School against Kiski School Friday, September 20, at 7 p.m. The game will serve as the opener in the 2019-2020 Centennial Cup multisport series between the two schools.
