Wednesday, September 11, 2019

Tommy Jenkins ’21 and Luis Gomez ’21 scored goals and Blake Boggess ’20 kept a clean sheet in goal to lead Mercersburg’s boys’ varsity soccer team to a 2-0 road win over local foe St. Maria Goretti September 10 in Hagerstown, Md.

Diego Morgan ’20 was fouled in the box to earn a penalty kick in the 29th minute, which Jenkins converted to give the Blue Storm (3-0) a 1-0 lead. Gomez doubled the margin in the 43rd minute when he scored off a low cross from Morgan.

Boggess went the distance in goal, stopping two shots to earn the shutout.

Mercersburg faces a tough test this weekend when it faces off Sunday, September 15, with regional power Pennington School (of Pennington, N.J.) in the Mid-Atlantic Showcase, a neutral-site contest played at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa. Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
