Boys’ V Basketball Runs Streak to Six
Mercersburg’s boys’ varsity basketball team extended its winning streak to six games December 20 with a 61-49 victory over Solebury School in the first round of the Devils Holiday Classic at Springtide Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia.
In a cold gym, the Blue Storm (6-3) struggled to score early in the game, but still held a 19-14 lead after one quarter. Solebury found a rhythm in the second quarter and took a 28-25 lead at the half. An explosion of energy and effort led the Storm to grab the lead for good early in the third quarter and extended it to 42-36 at the end of the third period. Continued defensive pressure allowed the Storm to build the 12-point final margin.
St. Bonaventure signee Quintin Metcalf ’20 led Mercersburg with 19 points, Patrick Di Tullio ’20 had 17 points, and Kaylen Oweh ’20 added 11 points.
On Friday morning, the team helped package more than 1,000 meals at MANNA (www.mannapa.org), a nonprofit organization that prepares and delivers meals to individuals battling life-threatening illnesses.
The Storm wraps up its three-game Philadelphia trip with a 3 p.m. game Saturday, December 21, at Springside Chestnut Hill.
