Boys’ V Basketball Outlasts St. James in Local Rivalry

Darren Blocker ’22 poured in 31 points and Chris Watson ’22 added 22 points in Mercersburg’s 76–69 victory over local rival St. James School December 7 in boys’ varsity basketball action in the Plantz Courts of Nolde Gymnasium.

The Blue Storm led 40–23 at intermission and by as many as 20 points in the second half before the Saints hammered away and got within four points on two occasions—the last at 67–63 with 3:10 to play in the contest. 

Neither team scored for the next 90 seconds of play before Blocker was fouled and nailed a pair of free throws to extend the margin to six points with 1:40 to go. Blocker was 11-of-12 from the free-throw line.

Jayden Ross of St. James led all scorers with 33 points, 21 of which came in the second half.

Mercersburg (2–4) has won two of its last three games and heads to Colora, MD, for a contest Saturday, December 11, at West Nottingham Academy (3:30 p.m.).
