Boys’ V Basketball Hits 23 Threes, But Comes Up Short
Mercersburg’s boys’ varsity basketball team made 23 three-pointers (which is believed to be a school record) in a 112–90 loss to visiting Bullis School February 5 in the Plantz Courts of Nolde Gymnasium.
Darren Blocker ’22 had a half-dozen treys en route to a team-high 26 points. Chris Watson ’22 made five three-pointers and finished with 20 points. Bryson Brown ’24 and Adrian Rios ’25 each had 16 points on four three-pointers apiece.
The visiting Bulldogs from Potomac, MD, put on an offensive show of their own. Jewel Walker led all scorers with 29 points and Gideon Sahlen contributed 20 points.
The scoring barrage marked the most points scored (and allowed) for the Blue Storm in a game this season.
Sunday, February 6: Lehigh Valley Hoop Group Showcase
Playing its second game in less than 24 hours and missing some key players, Mercersburg fell 97–44 to Perkiomen School in a neutral-site game played as part of the Lehigh Valley Hoop Group Showcase at Parkland High School in Allentown, PA.
Blocker posted a team-high 21 points for the Storm against Perkiomen, which features players who have committed to Virginia and Princeton.
In past years, the tournament has featured future NBA players Kyrie Irving, Luol Deng, Tyreke Evans, and Tristan Thompson, among others.
Mercersburg (4–11 overall) returns to action at home Wednesday, February 9, at 6 p.m. against Mid-Atlantic Prep League rival Peddie. As the final regular-season home game on the schedule, the contest will serve as Senior Night for the team’s five 12th graders: Blocker, Watson, Duncan Besch ’22, Terrance Ji ’22, and Collin Metcalf ’22.
