Boys’ V Basketball Gets Past Washington

Quintin Metcalf ’20 scored 17 points and Chris Watson ’22 added 16 points to lead Mercersburg’s boys’ varsity basketball team to a 67-51 win over visiting Washington High School (Charles Town, WV) in a game played February 1 in the Plantz Courts of Nolde Gymnasium.

The Blue Storm (14-7) jumped out to a 13-2 lead early and led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter before the visiting Patriots made a run to tie the game at 22-22. Mercersburg turned a 30-26 halftime lead into a 53-41 edge after three quarters following eight straight points by Watson, and closed out a 16-point win.

AJ Gray ’20 also reached double figures (10 points) for the Storm, while Tom Scheers ’21 scored all eight of his points in the second half.

Mercersburg finishes the regular season Tuesday, February 4, at home against Broadfording Christian Academy (7 p.m.). The Mid-Atlantic Prep League Tournament begins Friday, February 7, in Pottstown, PA.
