Mercersburg’s golf team got solid performances from a host of players, led by Luke Thompson ’21 and Argyle Downes ’23, to cruise past local foe St. Maria Goretti, by a comfortable 159-191 margin in a match played October 8 at Whitetail Golf Resort in Mercersburg.

Thompson shot a 37 and Downes posted a 39 to pace the Blue Storm in the nine-hole contest. Kenneth Yonke ’22 (41), Hendrik Heuer ’21 (42), Henry O’Brien ’20 (47), and Jason Huang ’21 (49) rounded out the scoring for Mercersburg.

“This was another strong effort from our team, particularly considering we were without two of our top six players," said Mercersburg head coach Doug Smith. “We got very strong program depth to go along with a tremendous top three of Luke, Argyle and Kenneth. Our team is starting to turn out performances like this match in and match out. The exciting part is there are still lower scores to come from this group.”

The Storm plays the second of three-straight home matches Saturday, October 12, when it welcomes Mid-Atlantic Prep League rival The Hill School to Whitetail. The contest tees off at noon.
