Visiting Hedgesville tagged Mercersburg for six runs in the second inning and six more in the fourth inning, and those outbursts by the Eagles resulted in a 13-6 win for the visitors in a non-conference varsity baseball contest April 5 at Cannon Field.

Mercersburg led 2-1 after the first inning. Aiden Lorson ’22 led off with a single, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Caleb Newcomer ’23, and scored on an RBI double by Gavin Williams ’24. Williams then came home on a double by John Blanco ’23.

After Hedgesville’s six-run second inning, the Blue Storm got within 7-5 following a run in the third and two runs in the fourth, but the six-run fourth put things out of reach.

Newcomer took the loss on the mound in relief of starter Arjun Patel. A bright spot was the relief work of CJ Hoffman ’22, who tossed three scoreless innings to halt the Eagle offense.

Austin Hallberg ’22 collected two hits for the Storm.

Mercersburg (4-4) will try to sweep a Mid-Atlantic Prep League doubleheader for the second straight weekend when rival Hill comes to town Saturday, April 9, for a twin-bill beginning at noon.
