While female competitors have been part of Mercersburg’s golf program for decades, the first official girls’ varsity team began to play as a distinct squad in the spring of 2022.
Future LPGA pro Holly Vaughn ’80 opened the door for female players in the 1980s, and longtime coach Dick Decker’s squads claimed titles in Mercersburg’s first league affiliation, the Mid-Atlantic Conference, in the 1990s.
More recently, the Storm posted an unbeaten streak in the Independent-Parochial School League Championships and produced two individual champions in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League girls’ tournament and a second-place finish at the PAISAA State Championships.
The competition schedule features both league and non-league opponents throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and culminates with the PAISAA State Championships and Mid-Atlantic Prep League Championships.
Mercersburg has played home matches at nearby Chambersburg Country Club (which has hosted state and local championships and a number of USGA U.S. Open qualifying events) and other local courses.
