Boys Golf

The Mercersburg golf program is built upon a foundation of hard work, discipline, and respect for the game. We stress individual improvement of each golfer within a competitive team environment. We work to foster an understanding of the rules and cultures of the game that will stay with team members long after their careers at Mercersburg are over. The boys’ varsity season includes competition in the fall and spring.

Golf holds a distinctive place in Mercersburg’s athletic history, with origins that date to the Academy’s early years in the 1890s. Future LPGA pro Holly Vaughn ’80 opened the door for female players in the 1980s, and longtime coach Dick Decker’s squads claimed titles in Mercersburg’s first league affiliation, the Mid-Atlantic Conference, in the 1990s. More recently, the Blue Storm has posted an unbeaten streak in the Independent-Parochial School League Championships and produced two individual champions in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League girls’ tournament and a second-place finish at the PAISAA State Championships.

Mercersburg has played home matches at nearby Chambersburg Country Club (which has hosted state and local championships and a number of USGA U.S. Open qualifying events) and other local courses. The competition schedule features both league and non-league opponents throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, including archrival The Hill School, and culminates with the PAISAA State Championships and Mid-Atlantic Prep League Championships.
