Mercersburg’s Department of Athletics saluted great performances and accomplishments from the winter 2019 season March 19, when the second group of MESPYs were handed out along with individual team awards from the school’s 10 winter varsity sports.
A pair of legendary Mercersburg alumni—Larry Sheridan ’51 and Bob Leavitt (1903)—have been chosen for enshrinement in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Hall of Fame and the Pennsylvania Track & Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame, respectively.
Mercersburg’s girls’ indoor track & field team finished second in the team standings at the 2019 Mid-Atlantic Indoor Track & Field Championships, which the Blue Storm hosted in the Hale Field House February 16. Annie Klaff ’20 was named the Female Field Athlete of the Meet after finishing in the top five in three different individual events, and Sophia Divone ’19 (1600m), Addie Geitner ’21 (3200m), and Tomisin Salako ’20 (shot put) won MAPL individual championships in their respective events.
Mercersburg finished fifth in the boys’ division and sixth in the girls’ division at the 2019 Eastern Interscholastic Swimming & Diving Championships February 15-16. Swimming events were held at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., with diving taking place at Germantown Academy in Fort Washington, Pa.
