The arts are a rich part of Mercersburg's history. Students continue the tradition of alumni by participating in a variety of performances and exhibitions. From choral and instrumental ensembles to dance, theatre, and gallery shows, the work of student artists is consistently a highlight of the school calendar.

Students involved in the arts develop confidence and discover fundamental truths about who they are and where they might go in life.

Our faculty of working artists provide a strong base, and guest artists visit campus throughout the year to offer new perspectives and unique expertise.

After classes are completed on a typical day, the Burgin Center for the Arts has no shortage of visitors. Students can be found rehearsing in the dance studios, practicing an instrument, rigging lighting for a play, finishing a painting, firing a clay pot, editing digital music or photography, preparing our school newspaper, or designing our yearbook (Karux) and award-winning literary arts journal (Blue Review).

Burgin Center for the Arts

Opened in 2006, the Burgin Center for the Arts is a campus hub of dance, music, and theatre performances as well as visual arts displays and exhibits. The 65,000-square-foot facility is more than just four walls—it’s home to our arts faculty offices, digital arts lab, rehearsal spaces, fine arts studios, and performance spaces, including a 599-seat proscenium theatre, a black box theatre, and two recital halls.

From rotating art installations to stage performances, instrumental recitals, and dance concerts, the Burgin Center is where students’ creative energy really comes alive!
