Alumni Council Welcomes Six New Members

New Alumni Council 2021_2022Mercersburg Academy is pleased to announce the appointment of six new members to its Alumni Council. They are (top to bottom, l-r): Tracy Baker Johnson 86, Danielle Dahlstrom 93, Ashley Frederick 13, Aaron Mendelson 55, Chris Spurry 66, P 89, and Diane “DeeJah” Wynter ’74.

Tracy M. Baker Johnson 86 graduated from Gettysburg College with a degree in business administration and management. She is senior vice-president of human resources at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, and her husband, Jonathan, works at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. As a student at Mercersburg, Johnson was a dorm prefect and a member of the swim team and the Irving Society. As an alum, she has served as a reunion committee member (2000–2001). Johnson is a Torchbearer, with 11 consecutive years of giving. She and Jonathan live in Bethany Beach, DE.

Danielle Dahlstrom 93 earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and a graduate degree from the London School of Economics and Politics. As a student at Mercersburg, Dahlstrom received the Head of School’s Prize; she served as chair of the Student Council and was a member of the The Fifteen, the Irving Society, the Karux staff, the Debate Club, and the field hockey and tennis teams. Dahlstrom has been a reunion committee member (2008–2010, 2011–2013), class agent (2002–2012), and admission volunteer (2021). She is a supporter of the Annual Fund and a Torchbearer. Dahlstrom lives in Vienna, Austria, and has two children, Ella and Oscar.

Ashley Frederick 13 graduated from Stetson University and is a sales manager at Unity Printing Inc. in Latrobe, PA. She serves on the board of several organizations, including Westmoreland County Community College, Stoneybrook Foundation Therapeutic Riding Center, and Safari Club International Pittsburgh Chapter. At Mercersburg, Frederick was Student Council president, a Burgin Center proctor, dorm prefect, student trainer, and a member of the Student Activities Committee, Tech Crew, the Irving Society, the girls' lacrosse team, and the Student Alumni Association. She also received the Carol Amorocho ’81 Prize and the Head of School's Prize. As a Mercersburg alum, Frederick has served as a fundraising volunteer (2011–2016 and 2020–2021), reunion committee member (2017–2018), class agent (2013–2015 and 2018–present), and video volunteer (2021). She is a member of the William Mann Irvine Society and a Torchbearer with eight consecutive years of giving. Frederick lives in Latrobe, PA.

Aaron Mendelson 55 is a retired investment and insurance adviser with Northwestern Mutual, and the former owner of Crocketts Ltd., a women’s clothing store. A graduate of Brown University, he is a founding and current trustee of Veritas Prep Charter School in Springfield, MA, and is a member of the Springfield Business Leaders for Education. While at Mercersburg, Mendelson participated in wrestling and football and was a member of the Irving Society. As an alum, he has served as a reunion committee member (2019–2021). Mendelson is a member of the Marshall and Irving Alliance and is a Torchbearer with 19 years of giving to the Annual Fund. He lives in Longmeadow, MA.

Chris Spurry 66, P 89 attended Johns Hopkins University, Loyola College of Maryland, and St. Joseph's University. He is executive vice president at Spurry-Curren and Associates. Spurry is the owner of two successful companies and has completed seven real-estate development or redevelopment projects. He has 24 years of experience as a bank director, with 10 years as chairman of the board. As a student at Mercersburg, Spurry participated in lacrosse, soccer, and wrestling and was a member of the Irving Society. As an alum, he has served as a reunion committee member (2015–2016, 2020–2021), an Annual Fund volunteer solicitor (2016–2017), and a Springboard volunteer (2019–2020). Spurry is a William Mann Irvine Society member and a Torchbearer, with nine consecutive years of giving. He and his wife, Beverly, have four daughters and 10 grandchildren. His daughter, F.E. “Beth” Spurry ’89, granddaughter, Olivia Keller ’19, and nephew, Alex Sommers ’11, graduated from Mercersburg. His grandson, Jobe Hause ’22, is a current Mercersburg student. Chris and Beverly live in St. Michaels, MD.

Diane “DeeJah” Wynter 74 was born in Jamaica and grew up in Manhattan. She overcame obstacles of being disadvantaged to achieve her education, ultimately earning both bachelor's and master's degrees. During Family and Alumni Weekend 2019 at a dinner for the 30th anniversary of the Black Student Union, Wynter was honored as the first Black female graduate of Mercersburg Academy. As a Mercersburg student, Wynter was a dorm prefect and a member of the Chorale, the field hockey team, and the Marshall Society. As an alum, she has served as a Mercersburg advocate (2019 event host committee and 2021 academic volunteer). She is a Torchbearer with 19 years of giving to the Annual Fund. Wynter has worked for NYNEX and Verizon. She lives in Monmouth Junction, NJ.
