Alumni Council Welcomes Four New Members

Kathryn Clark Furtado ’94

Mercersburg Academy’s Alumni Council is pleased to announce the appointment of four new members: Kathryn Clark Furtado ’94, Julio “J.J.” Fabrega IV ’90, Chris Jones ’94, and Katie Stover ’07. 

Kathryn Clark Furtado ’94 attended Penn State University, where she earned a degree in finance and international business, and received a law degree from the University of Arizona. She is a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, DC. As a student at Mercersburg, Kathryn was a member of the volleyball, basketball, and track & field teams. She recently returned to campus for her 25th reunion and participated in the Black Student Union’s 30th anniversary celebration in October 2019. Kathryn and her husband, Andy, live in Silver Spring, MD, with their two children.

J.J. Fabrega ’90

J.J. Fabrega ’90 is a graduate of American University with a bachelor’s degree in public relations and a minor in Spanish. He has held several executive consulting appointments, including leading photovoltaic plant development in Panama’s Coclé province for Providencia Solar 1 and Hidro Panama. J.J. owns Isthmus Innovation and Consulting, an IT solutions company; founded PALCASCO, a mobile app for tourism in his native Panama City, Panama; and partnered with Marcelo Tenza ’90 to create a Latin American office for Solsegur America, a supplier of hotel equipment. J.J. has served on the board of directors of the Panamanian National Bureau of Science, Technology, and Innovation and the Panamanian National Research Commission. His activities as a Mercersburg student included football, lacrosse, and wrestling, as well as work on the Special Programs Committee and with the International Club, Spanish Club, and Irving Society. J.J. most recently served on his 30th Reunion Committee. He and his wife, Mariana, live in Panama City with their three children.

Chris Jones ’94

Chris Jones ’94 attended the University of Michigan, where he graduated with a degree in history, English, film, and video, and Northwestern University, where he earned a law degree. He served as a law clerk in the Northern District of Illinois and is currently an attorney with Ballard Spahr LLP in Philadelphia. While at Mercersburg, Chris participated in Student Council and was a member of The Fifteen. He was a member of his 20th and 25th Reunion Committee. Chris and his wife, Meg, live in Philadelphia with their two sons, and have recently returned to the U.S. after five years in the UK.


Katie Stover ’07

Katie Stover ’07 attended Kalamazoo College, where she earned a degree in French language and literature and political science, and Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Clermont-Ferrand in France, where she studied marketing. She is co-founder of Wimbly Stoke, a marketing consulting company based in Frederick, MD. Katie serves as board president of Leadership Washington County. As a Mercersburg student, she was a Peer Group Leader and tour guide; was a member of the Cum Laude Society, Stony Batter Players, Chorale, the Irving Society, and the soccer and track & field teams; and received the Class of 2003 Prize, the Music Director’s Prize, and the Stony Batter Prize. Katie has served Mercersburg as an Annual Fund solicitor, a Daring to Lead Host Committee member, and a Reunion Committee member. She lives in Myersville, MD.
