Applying for Financial Aid

Since 1893, Mercersburg Academy has, with extensive help from alumni, families, and friends of the school, offered students financial aid based primarily upon demonstrated financial eligibility. Mercersburg currently administers a generous financial aid program that funds more than 40 percent of the student body, predominantly in the form of grants and sometimes small, low-interest loans. Understanding that a Mercersburg education is a significant investment, the Financial Aid Committee works to determine a fair assessment of a family’s ability to provide their children with the outstanding education available here.

  • Step One – Indicate that you intend to apply for financial aid

To be given full consideration for financial aid, it is important that you indicate your intention to apply for financial aid on the application for admission, or by contacting the Office of Admission and Financial Aid.
  • Step Two – Complete the Parent Financial Statement (PFS)

In order to determine a family’s eligibility to receive financial aid in a fair and equitable manner, Mercersburg requires that all new and returning applicants complete the Parent Financial Statement (PFS) through School and Student Services. Include Mercersburg Academy’s school code (5026) and a copy will be made accessible to Mercersburg Academy.
  • Step Three – Submit ALL financial information to SSS

All new applicants for financial aid must submit to SSS their current year’s and their previous two year’s federal income tax returns, including W2s and 1040s with all schedules and attachments. Returning applicants for financial aid need only submit their current year’s taxes.

For families with multiple children in tuition-charging schools, a copy of the financial aid award received at each child’s institution should be uploaded to SSS as soon as it is available to the family. The family should then notify the Office of Admission and Financial Aid that they have done so.
